I'm Sarah, and Dandelion Thoughts is my therapy business - so named because I was taken by the idea of all the thoughts, feelings and concepts that no longer serve us drifting away on the breeze like dandelion seeds .....

I believe in creating a safe, empathetic space in which we can work together to explore whatever brings you to counselling. I am passionate about the healing power of supportive relationships and aim to create an authentic and safe space in which to work.  I bring curiosity and gentle enquiry to help you navigate whatever comes up.

My work incorporates many aspects of Polyvagal theory, (more of that further down the page) something I've been drawn to since qualifying, which has been transformational both for clients and myself.

Core values

Empathy

I offer an empathetic space in which to work, I will try to understand your experience from your perspective to best help you understand it yourself

Authenticity

I believe passionately that we heal within relationship, I will bring my authentic self to our relationship and create a sound therapeutic base from which to work

Person-Centred

You are at the heart of our work together, the sessions are yours and I believe that 'what needs to come will show itself' and work with no agenda or preconception

How do we work together?

Our sessions are your time and space, to bring whatever it is that's come up for you.  We may talk or contemplate, process and explore, question or find meaning.

I don't bring goals for you or preconceptions of outcomes or what we might achieve.  I bring curiosity and empathic enquiry and each session may go in a different direction, I believe we'll go where you need to go.

Sessions are open ended - you don't need to sign up for a certain number and you don't have to finish at any point.

So what is this "Polyvagal"?

We all have a nervous system – the complex web of sensory and motor nerves that ‘operate’ our bodies as humans / mammals.  An incredibly important part of that system is our Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) – this is the part that keeps the really important stuff, like breathing and heartbeat, going without us having to think about it – for autonomic read automatic.

This incredible system not only maintains our body and makes sure we’re ready to do what we choose to do but it’s also our threat detection system, readying us to face danger in an instant – quicker than the time it takes to process our thoughts (think ‘fight or flight’).

We know now, that some experiences and events whether singular or repeated disrupt the ANS so it reacts in a way that’s sometimes not entirely expected, comfortable or helpful in our daily lives – variously these reactions may be attributed to nerves, anxiety or depression, anger issues, overwhelm and more.  Polyvagal theory offers a way to look at these reactions with an understanding of why our ANS reacts the way it does – and how we can feel what is happening and help our nervous system understand safety once more.

So how does being ‘Polyvagal informed’ fit into my work?

Polyvagal threads are woven into my work throughout, sometimes through tangible descriptions of how things work to help explain behaviour or an understanding of how different nervous system states feel to help you find your own description.  Co-regulation is a large part of polyvagal theory – the idea that one nervous system can help regulate another and provide safety – together we can co-regulate and our systems can find safety together.

Clients have found understanding aspects of polyvagal theory transformational - allowing them to recognise what is happening by listening to their body and learning to help their nervous system feel safe so they can find calm and peacefulness.

Appointments & how to book

Counselling / Psychotherapy

I offer in person appointments at a couple of locations or online (video) appointments

Weekly or fortnightly

I suggest our work together starts weekly as that can help to develop our relationship and establish our way of working, but appreciate this isn't for everyone.

I offer a free introductory phone call where we can explore if we're a good fit - both in terms of what you'd like to get out of counselling and me explaining a little more of how I work.

If you're interested in working with me and you'd like to have a chat please drop me a line :
